Be My AI Explained: The AI Assistant Inside Be My Eyes

Be My AI describes any photo in seconds and answers follow-up questions. Here's what it can do, when to use it over a volunteer, and its limits.

Be My AI is the artificial-intelligence assistant built into the Be My Eyes app, launched in 2023. It describes any photo you send it — in detail, in seconds — and then lets you ask follow-up questions about it, like a conversation.

What it can do

Point your camera or upload a photo, and Be My AI tells you what's in it: the text on a sign, the layout of a room, what's on a restaurant menu, the colors in an image. Then you can keep asking: "read the small print at the bottom," "is there a date on this?", "which of these two cans is the soup?" It works in 36 languages.

When to use AI vs. a volunteer

Be My AI is perfect for quick, private, repeatable tasks — reading labels, checking documents, describing a picture someone sent you. No waiting, no talking to a stranger, available instantly at 3am. Volunteers are better for anything interactive or judgment-based: "does this outfit match?", "help me find my keys in this messy room," or anything where you need a human's opinion.

Many people use both: AI for the quick stuff, humans for the rest. That's exactly how the app is designed — here's how the volunteer side works for comparison.

Is it accurate?

It's very good at describing what's visibly there, but like all AI, it can occasionally misread text or miss context. For anything critical — medication labels, safety instructions — double-check with a volunteer or another source. The app is upfront about this: AI describes, humans verify.

Privacy

Photos you send to Be My AI are processed to generate descriptions. If this concerns you, our privacy and safety guide explains what data the app handles and what controls you have.

Also on Windows

Be My AI isn't just on phones — the Windows app can describe your screen, local images, and web images through the same conversational interface. Handy for reading inaccessible dialogs or diagrams on a PC.
